Notes: Recorded at Steamroom Tokyo, May 2008, part of the Touch 7 series. Jim O'Rourke has recorded as a member of the experimental rock groups Gastr Del Sol, The Red Krayola, Sonic Youth and others, recorded a number of his own albums of pop rock, guitar improvisation and musique-concrète compositions on a host of labels, released collaborative recordings with Henry Kaiser, K.K. Null, Gunter Muller, Eddie Prevost, Evan Parker, Phill Niblock and Mats Gustafsson, and produced albums by Tony Conrad, Faust, Melt Banana and Space Streakings. His most recent release is a collaboration with the great Oren Ambarchi and Keiji Haino, called Tima Formosa.

Notes: Sebastian Lexer on Piano, Max/MSP programming, recording and mastering. On this album Microphones are used to capture the acoustic sound from the piano, a personally developed software (based on Max/MSP) is used to analyse the acoustic sound. The resulting data streams are reporting pitch information, loudness, density and so forth, and, combined with some more direct controls, evoke a mixture of digital audio processes and allow adjustments. All processes are happening in real-time. Lexer calls this process Piano+. If you visit Sebastianlexer.eu there a number of live performances and pieces there for listening and download.

Notes: Recorded 28may 2010, Graham Lambkin on Microphone & Devices, Jason Lescalleet on Synthesizers & Loops. Lescalleet uses reel-to-reel tape decks to explore the textures of low fidelity analog sounds, much of the source material fotr this recording is taken from field recordings around Lescalleet’s house. Lambkin has released four solo recordings since 2001, the most readily available being Salmon Run and Softly Softly Copy Copy.

Notes: Annette Krebs studied music and concert guitar in Frankfurt/Main. She has worked with improvisation and composition, exploring the possibilities of the prepared guitar. Various preparation methods are used with sometimes high levels of amplification. Taku Unami was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1976. He is a composer and improviser working with assorted stringed instruments, including the guitar, mandolin, and contraguitar, laptop and vibrating objects (from which he amplifies the inaudible vibrations).

Notes: We heard about Roux earlier on, so Vincent Epplay is a visual and sound artist and has recently released a collaboration with Samon Takahashi called soundtracks for the movies of Pierre Clementi.

Notes: This piece is from a split lp with Martux_M called Veertiende Mixer. KAFFE MATTHEWS has been making and performing electro-acoustic music since 1990. In 1997 she established the label Annette Works, releasing the best of these events on cd. She uses self-designed software and reprocesses sounds live. She has also collaborated with Zeena Parkins, Sachiko M, Ikue Mori, Marina Rosenfeld, Pan Sonic, Oren Ambarchi, Alan Lamb, Christian Fennesz and pan-European electronics orchestra Mimeo.

Notes: Recorded in may 2008, featuring the Nelly Boyd Ensemble from Hamburg, www.nellyboyd.org In this piece is an entirely acoustic recording, each player recorded 4 takes of a 46 minute score, totaling 20 tracks all mixed together unedited. Niblock was born October 2, 1933, in Anderson, Indiana, and gained a degree in Economics before turning to photography and film in 1960. Inspired by Morton Feldman's pieces containing extremely drawn-out notes, as well as by other music, he began to make music himself. He says: "What I am doing with my music is to produce something without rhythm or melody, by using many microtones that cause movements very, very slowly." Notes: Eleh began in 1999 as an exploration of analog synthesis, emphasising low frequency oscillation and resonant acoustic phenomenae. Eleh has released around twenty LP only records on Important Records and Taiga Records and Eleh’s first full length CD Location Momentum has just been released by Touch.
